The Rosina Project’ is an original adaptation of Rossini’s classic opera ‘The Barber of Seville’ that mixes MCs, street-dance artists and opera singers with a live DJ and Beatboxer to tell a contemporary story of female empowerment as an immersive Hip-Hopera.
This is an outdoor event, performed on concrete, with no seating provided. Feel free to bring lawn chairs and blankets to the performance.

George is the Producing Artistic Director of Chicago Fringe Opera, called “the city’s alt-opera company” by the Chicago Tribune. Recent directing credits for the company include LA JETEÉ and CORSAIR, as well as the company’s long-running hit show THE ROSINA PROJECT, a Hip-Hop adaptation of THE BARBER OF SEVILLE.
In addition, George has directed new productions and workshops of operas, musicals, and plays with Opera Festival of Chicago, Chicago Dramatists, the Chicago Sinfonietta, Pittsburgh Opera, the Bay View Music Festival and Chicago Folks Operetta.
An inspiring mentor, George is the Producing Artistic Director of Opera and Theatre at North Park University.
Now in its ninth season, George hosts OPERA BOX SCORE [America’s Talk Radio Show About Opera] on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and WNUR 89.3 FM Chicago.

John is a senior at Loyola Chicago, where he has appeared in Much Ado About Nothing (Benedick) and Cabaret (Emcee). Also seen at the Tower of London, Minnesota Fringe, and around Chicago at Victory Gardens, Asterisk Arts, and Surging Theatrics/Cuckoo’s Theater. John directs and performs for Kettle Camp Studios. LDA 2018; Twelfth Night (Toby/Feste). 2019 J. Pat Miller Award.
Katherine is a rising senior at Loyola University Chicago pursuing a BA in Theatre with a focus in Acting and a minor in Musical Theatre. Collegiate credits include “Violet” in VIOLET, “Fritzie” in CABARET, and “Olivia” in Twelfth Night at the London Dramatic Academy. She is so happy to be back for her second summer working on THE ROSINA PROJECT and extends her gratitude to all involved.
