S*NG! is a collaboration between IU-Northwest’s School of the Arts and Chicago Fringe Opera, its 2026 artists-in-residence. It’s a six-week-long series of singing and improvisation workshops held at IU-Northwest (in Gary, IN) between May 18th and June 24.
Admission to S*NG! is on a first-come, first-enrolled basis, with a maximum of 16 places available. The course is suitable for high school and college students, as well as young professionals. No prior experience in acting or improvisation is necessary, but participants should be confident in singing by themselves in public. Singers across all voice types, ranges, and styles (including classical, gospel, musical theatre, and pop) are welcomed.
Registration is $50, the first seven registered participants get a fee waiver! Discounts available for Illinois and Indiana educators.
S*NG! runs for six weeks, starting May 18 through June 24, 2026. Classes meet in-person on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 7 pm CT on the campus of IU-Northwest in Gary, IN. A final, in person, public presentation will take place on Wednesday June 24 at 8 pm CT, and will include an audience talkback with the artists and staff.
NOTE: S*NG will not meet on May 25th (Memorial Day).
